• Hear about the latest public health research on alcohol pricing and taxation
• Build momentum across Texas for saving lives with alcohol taxes
The price of alcohol is a powerful determinant of levels of drinking and alcohol-related problems. Increasing alcohol excise taxes and other measures to influence alcohol prices have been recommended by numerous reviews of the scientific literature, including CDC’s Community Guide to Preventive Services. During this webinar, Dr. David Jernigan will introduce participants to the public health research on alcohol prices and taxation, as well as to best practices in the translation of this research into public health action.
Dr. Jernigan is the Director of the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth, and he is currently leading a four-university collaborative effort to build the research base in support of translation of effective alcohol pricing strategies into public health practice. Specifically, this project will evaluate the public health impact of recent alcohol price changes in Illinois and Massachusetts; model the economic and employment effects of alcohol price increases in several states; model the effects of alcohol tax increases at the level of the individual drinker, segmented by income as well as by drinking behavior; and develop case studies on efforts to influence alcohol pricing in Illinois, Massachusetts and Maryland.
