The Regional Forums are an extensive focus on increasing community capacity for implementing environmental strategies. The concept of Regional Forums was developed to take information and skills learned at state level conferences and infuse it into the grassroots community setting. The Forums educate and equip the community to address youth substance abuse through environmental prevention, utilizing only evidence-based environmental prevention strategies from credible sources (eg. The Institute of Medicine, Centers for Disease Control, and Surgeon General’s reports). Texans Standing Tall Forums increase the knowledge base, capacity, and readiness to act by increasing the number of community members with pertinent information, materials, state-level contacts, and strategy implementation skill set development. This process creates grassroots action for local community members and gives state leaders personal knowledge of the community prevention work.
The Statewide Summits provides information for parents and community members the tools to help combat the effects of underage drinking and tobacco use on underage youth and college students. With the help of the Coalitions and our attendees we can help make our communities healthier and safer for all community members.
